Equalized for the new asse^ment, this year’s levy works out to 47 cents; accordingly, the advertised 52-cent rate represents an increase of 10.6 percent.

If the rate is to be lowered to 50 cents, the landfill cost estimates might have to hold. Hut after work sessions on departmental requests and approval of the school budget, it already appears possible to, shave a penny from the levy.
With the library and welfare budgets still to be reviewed, the supervisors have cut about $55,600 from the expenditures originally proposed. That's equivalent to more than 11 cents of real estate tax.
On Monday, the supervisors adopted the school budget by categories, appropriating $19,000 less than what was sought by the School Hoard.
“Dr. (langel, we’ll tell you where we took the money from so you'll know,” Chairman Hubert Gilkey told the superintendent of schools. "Hut we realize we can’t cut your budget by line item."
