As for bail, we ought to adjust our bail laws to require it be presumptively set at twice the “street value” of any drugs confiscated. It’s not unusual for police officers to find drug shipments worth a half million or a million dollars. The word ought to be on the street that when drug runners get nabbed in Virginia, they go to jail to stay there.
Thankfully, public awareness of the diug problem has never been higher. As Col. Suthard said, “We are not winning the war yet. The winning of the war will be done through education.”
