Between 90 and 100 wells will be sampled, concentrating on the vicinity of abandoned dumps and the new landfill in Rappahannock and also over the county lines in neighboring Fauquier and Culpeper counties, Mrs. Early said. The samples will be screened for heavy metals, nitrates, phosphates, pesticides, bacteria, and total organic contaminants.
For the committee’s part, room and board will be provided for Mr. McThenia, who will stay with Amissville residents Hal and Beverly Hunter. “I think it’s a good project for all the districts in Rappahannock County, if they qualify,” Mrs. Early told the supervisors.
STEHP was established in 1980 at Vanderbilt University’s Center for Health Services in Tennessee; the program at VPI & SU, set up in 1985, is modeled after Vanderbilt’s.
