iwo car accidents outside operryviue last week sent two men to area hospitals.

On Wednesday, Aug. 17, at about 9:45 p.m., Tony S. Deal, of Sperryville, was ii\jured when his car ran off Rt. 231 and up an embankment. According to Virginia State Trooper R. E. Keen, who investigated the accident, Mr. Deal was northbound on Rt. 231 about 100 yards north of Rt. 652 when he swerved to avoid an animal. The car ran off the right side of the road, up an embankment, and turned 90 degrees toward the road, coming to rest with its rear end in the drainage ditch.

Mr. Deal was taken to Culpeper Memorial Hospital by the Sperryville Rescue Squad, where he was admitted with a possible back injury. He was released Aug. 19.

In addition to the Sperryville Rescue Squad, units from the Sperryville Volunteer Fire Department and the Washington VFD responded to the accident.
