To enroll in the program, farmers must submit bids stating the peracre rental payment they would accept to convert their highly erodible cropland to conserving uses, and also provide a cropping history for 1981 through 1985.
“Farmers will be eligible to receive 50 percent of the cost of establishing filter strips or planting trees on the land, as well as annual rental payments for retiring highly erodible acres through 10 year contracts;” ' Ms. Henry said. The county ASC committee is responsible for determining that each producer’s offer does not exceed the prevailing local rental rate for comparable land, she added.
