Cash Store doses ; v A Washington landmark passes this week, as the Washington Cash Store will cfose its doors for the last time on Saturday, Nbv. 26. Owner C. E. (Skippy) Giles plans , toconvert the building's downstairs into offices for the county health department, and the upstairs into apartments. It is one of the town's older buildings, having served in a previous incarnation as the Stuart Bank, the last private bank in the country.

Mrs. Fletcher marks 100th

Mrs. Martha (Mattie) Ball Fletcher celebrated her 100th birthday on Wednesday, Nov. 23. An Alabama native who moved to Rappahannock County as a young woman, Mrs. Fletcher still lives in her home at the corner of Main and Calvert Sts. in Washington. Willard Scott of the Today show on NBC and President and Mrs. Reagan were among the many who wished Mrs. Fletcher well on her landmark birthday. Mrs. Fletcher said that she didn't want a big fuss made over the occasion. “I've lived a very private life, and I'd like to finish it that way,'' she said Monday.

The first week of deer season has not yielded a heavy harvest, and the Virginia Game Commission reminds all hunters, regardless of their quarry, to be double sure of their targets before shooting.
