DUTIESrOverhauls and repairs all types of gasoline and/or diesel engines. Troubleshoots problems in motor graders, crawler tractors and similar types of heavy equipment. Rebuilds under carriages, rebuilds all types of power shift transmissions. Supervises shop section in the absence of the Shop Foreman. Instructs and trains Mechanic A's and Apprentices. Performs repairs of gas engines, diesel engines and transmissisons on dump trucks and heavy trucks. Repairs motor grader components, crawlers, shovels, loaders, etc. Repairs steering components, hydraulic components and systems and transmission differentials and transfer cases. Troubleshoots all functions of the automobile, including use of automotive analyzer scope. Rebuilds all automotive components such as engines, automatic transmissions, drive line components, and electrical system components. Performs front end overhauls, brake repairs, and engine tune-ups. Performs Official State Inspections on licensed highway vehicles, pool vehicles and vehicles owned by other State Agencies. Picks up parts and supplies. Prepares necessary paper work which includes daily time cards, State Inspection stickers, preventive maintenance equipment reports and HRPS charges. Conducts 5 minute safety meeting twice monthly.
QUALIFICATIONS: Knowledge of: Standard shop practices; and diagnostic and repair techniques and procedures as related to automotive, agricultural, construction and trucking equipment. Skill in using diagnostic equipment and shop tools necessary to perform the required duties. Ability to: read, write and perform arthimetic calculations; communicate orally; perform heavy manual labor; operate various equipment and supervise and direct the work of other mechanics. Must possess a valid Virginia Operator's license. Safety shoes required in the performance of the above duties.
