When he returned to civilian life after leaving active duty with the Army following World War II, Maj. Guinn remained in the Army Reserves and organized the first Army Reserves unit in Culpeper.
He is a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, the Sons of the American Revolution, the American ^Legion, the Sons of Confederate Veterans, the Culpeper County Historical Society, the Friends of the Culpeper Town and County Library, and is an honorary member of the United Daughters of the Confederacy.
Mr. Guinn and his wife Mary Frances live at “Winfrey,” their home outside Culpeper. They have two daughters, Claudia Beasley of Culpeper and Sylvia Gaff of Tampa, Florida, and four grandsons.
The award service was held on Nov. 13 at St. Stephens Parish Hall, and was attended by Mr. Guinn’s family, friends and members of the organizations of which he is a member. The Medal of Honor was presented by Mrs. Douglas Fairfax, regent of the Culpeper chapter. The service ended with a reading by Mrs. Woodruff Kearns of her poem, entitled “The Silent Majority.”
