The county’s Water and Sewer Authority needs to find a way of pumping the septic tanks in Sperryville and disposing of the sludge from them.
The contract with Rosebud Septic Service of Culpeper, which has been in effect since the treatment plant opened, was fulfilled when Rosebud pumped the final tanks in its three-year cycle last Christmas Day, WSA member Charles K. “Pete” Estes said.
For the past several months, members of the Authority have been discussing the possibility of acquiring a pumper truck and having the tanks pumped by the plant operator rather than contracting with an outside firm. This might not only save money, but also allow the sewage treatment plant to operate more effeciently, since it seems to require more bacteria than it receives from the liquid from the tops of the tanks, plant operator Tim Falls suggested to the members several months ago.
