Despite the seemingly high figures, Thorson said ticket sales for Northern Virginia were “a little disappointing.”
Northern Virginia “is strong compared to other regions, but it is no where near what we think its potential is," said Thorson. He attributes that, in part, to the competition in the District of Columbia and Maryland.
Consequently, the Virginia Lottery is working to recruit more retailers in the Northern Virginia area.
“The studies seem to show that the more retailers you have the greater your sales will be — and that’s simply a matter of convenience,” explained Thorson.
