Aerobic dance classes

A six week series of aerobic dance classes will begin Tuesday, Sept. 19 at 6 p.m. Classes will be held at Rappahannock Elementary School on Tuesdays and Thursdays. Class fee is $30. No experience necessary. Call Rose Ann Sharp at 675-3887 for more information.

Skyline Show at Gallery

In conjunction with the national celebration of the 50th Anniversary of the Skyline Drive the Middle Street Gallery has scheduled The Skyline Show. The entries, which came in from the surrounding five counties, were juried by Professor Berthold Schmutzhart, Chairman of the Department of Sculpture of the Corcoran Museum’s School of Art in Washington, D.C. Thirty-five works of art were selected and will be on display beginning Saturday, Sept. 23. The Opening will be Sept. 23 from 7:30-10 p.m. At 8 p.m., Darwin Lambert, author of The Undying Past of Shenandoah's National Park will speak about the Skyline Drive and share his experiences concerning the development of the Drive. Mr. Lambert was the first employee of the Shenandoah National Park. He will discuss his book and be open for questions from those in attendance. This exhibition is sponsored by James & Marie Kilpatrick and the Middle Street 100. The show runs through October 22. Gallery hours are Friday through Sunday 11 a.m.-6 p.m., or by appointment. Fiber arts show

The Middle Street Gallery, an artist’s cooperative in Washington, Va., is presenting its Annual Fiber Arts Show. Member Artists exhibiting are Janet Kerig, Dianne Waldron, Joel Hoyer, Lynnette Nicholas, Tanya Richey and Nina Moore. Guest artists include Enid Adams of The Plains and Jim and Sally Mello from Rixeyville. We are also priviledged to display “Beets” woven by Barbara Falkowska from Warsaw, Poland who recently showed a collection of her works to area artists. The Fiber Arts Show will hang through Sept. 17.

Cosmic circus Sept. 23

Everyone is invited to join the balancing act at “Balancing the Earth, Balancing Ourselves: The 1989 3-Ring Ying-Yang Dharma Circus and Ceremony for Planetary Healing,” Saturday, Sept. 23 from noon to dark at Horseshoe Hills, one mile west of the Emporium on U.S. Rt. 211 in Sperryville. Add your special energy and prayers to the circle for planetary healing at 6 p.m. The day will be filled with bellydancing, workshops, performances, psychic readings, crystals, jam sessions, and more. Tai Ji Quan classes

A new beginners class in Tai Ji Quan (Tai Chi Chuan) will start Wednesday, Oct. 4. The classes will be held from 6:30-7:30 at the town hall. The fee is $25/month. Tai Ji is an ancient Chinese form of exercise, meditation and martial art focusing on relaxation. For information and registration call 636-3078.

Hatha Yoga classes to begin

If you missed the registration on Monday, Sept. 11 you can still attend the class on Monday, Sept. 18. Classes will be held at The Child Care and Learning Center in Washington from 6 to 7 p.m. For further information call (703) 349-9221, days.

Karate classes

The Child Care and Learning Center is sponsoring karate classes for children ages 6 and up. The classes will be held at the Center on Wednesdays at 5:20 to 6:10 p.m. Advance students will be dismissed at 6:30 p.m. Classes will begin Sept. 20. The cost is $65 for 12 sessions. Antique car show

The annual Antique and Classic car show7 and flea market sponsored by the Strasburg’s Rotary Club will be held on Saturday, Sept. 16 at Belle Grove Plantation from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Belle Grove is located on U.S. Route 11, one mile south of Middletowm, (exit 77 off Interstate 81).
