Annual fire school
The Rappahannock County Fire and Rescue Association will sponsor its annual Fire School at the Amissville VFD on Saturday and Sunday, Sept. 16 and 17. Classes will include Ventilation and Overhaul, Instructor I, Confined Space Rescue, Apparatus Maintenance, Public Fire Education (open to anyone, whether or not they belong to a fire department) and Emergency Vehicle Operator’s Course (EVOC). Live theatre at Gay St.
Live theatre will return to Rappahannock County this fall in the form of James Goldman’s “The Lion in Winter.” The story takes place at Christmas time 1183 and involves, among many other things, personal and power conflicts within the Plantagenet family. The Plantagenets, one of the most powerful families in the history of the western world, are headed in the play by Henry II, great grandson of William the Conqueror. The play, co-sponsored by RAAC and the Rappahannock Players, is being directed by Michelene Hostetter. Performances are scheduled for Sept. 29 and 30 and Oct. 6 and 7 and will take place at the Gay St. Theater.
Washington VFD dance
The Washington Volunteer Fire Department will sponsor a dance on Saturday, Sept. 23, from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m., featuring Cool Water Express. There will be hamburgers, hot dogs, bratwurst, barbecue, wine, cider, beer and soft drinks for sale, as Well as baked goods.' There will be volleyball for adults and kickball for the kids. The event will be held on Gay St. at the courthouse complex. Admission is $2, and all proceeds will benefit the Washington VFD.
