Farmers suffering from 1989 crop losses due to disaster conditions beyond their control will soon be eligible to sign up for disaster benefits. Applications will be handled through the Rappahannock County ASCS office. Signup for the 1989 program will begin Sept. 15 and end April 2, 1990.
Disaster applications may be filed once a farmer has completed harvest of his crops. If the crops failed or if the farmer was prevented from planting crops and a later crop was planted on the same acreage, a disaster application may be filed upon completion of the later crop.
In cases where the entire crop failed or was prevented from being planted, and no later crop was planted, an application may be filed any time during the signup period.
County ASCS offices will process payments as quickly as possible after producers provide the following forms and information: CCC-441, Application for 1989 Disaster Benefits; ASCS-578, Report of Acreage; ASCS-574, Application for Disaster Credit; ASCS-658, Record of Production and Yield; AD-1026, Highly Erodible Land and Wetland Conservation Certification; CCC-440, Certification of Crop Insurance; CCC502, Farm Operating Plan.
Expedited payments will be issued either 15 days after the complete application has been filed or Sept. 15, whichever is later, to producers who have harvested their 1989 crops or who did not replant, failed, and prevented planted acreage to another crop. These expedited payments will be issued to producers who provided the information listed above by Sept. 30.
