A request by former county building inspector Emiel Smet for consideration of his proposed “Windemeer Estates” subdivision near Amissville led to extensive discussion among the Planning Commission members about the amount and type of growth to encourage in the area around the village of Amissville.
The tract is located on the west side of Route 642, about one-half mile south of Hackley’s Store and the intersection of Route 642 and U.S. 211. About eight acres of Mr. Smet’s 121-acre property is zoned R2, which allows one house on each two-acre lot. The rest of the property is zoned Agricultural, which requires 25 acres for a house. Mr. Smet’s subdivision proposal would require that the entire property be rezoned to R-5, which would allow a house on a five-acre lot.
