Virginia is a low tax state. Its taxes are lower than any of its neighboring states. Its taxes as a proportion of income are lower today than they were 10 years ago.
In the last three years, 300,000 jobs have been created in Virginia. The unemmployment rate of 3.3% is one of the lowest in the nation. During Republican Gov. Dalton's term, by contrast, unemployment went up.
Prudent management by Democratic Govs. Robb and Baliles has kept growth of government to a minimum. By contrast the government grew by an astounding 141 % under Republican Govs.Godwin and Dalton.
Virginia's public high school graduation rate and the percentage going on to college has increased by 10% since 1982. Its public four year colleges and universities, as well as its Community College System, are among the best in the nation.
Under Democratic leadership, a bipartisan 12 1/2 year program has been launched to build critical transportation networks to meet Virginia's present and future needs.
