We at the Historical Society know that you who have graveyards on your property frequently have no vested interest in the people buried there. However, Oct. 31, All Hallow’s Eve is upon us. In the middle ages, it was the time when people visited the graves of their ancestors, cleaning up debris, picnicking at the gravesite and in general honoring their dead.
We appeal to you to make a stab at clearing the area of brush and ivy, set the stones upright where you are able, and if you so desire, make an inventory of the occupants for us. Perhaps one of the service clubs, the Lions, Ruritans, Boy Scouts would be willing to assist in cleaning up these parts of our county’s heritage.
Just give a thought of how you would want your own grandmother’s grave treated.
