During Ms. Terry’s four-year tenure, her office took on the insurance industry and won concessions on exorbitant rate increases, forced one of the world’s largest automotive corporations to recall hundreds of defective ambulances which were a danger to their crews and other motorists, and formed the Commonwealth Alliance for Drug Resistance Education. That last effort was commended by the national organization of state attorneys general, and selected by her peers as one of several model programs to be implemented in other states.
Close to home, her office has also taken aggressive action to stem the continuing pollution of Warren County by Avtex Fibers Inc, including levying multi-million dollar fines and requesting court-ordered closure of the plant if the pollution is not stopped.
Her opponent, State Sen. Joseph Benedetti, has accused Ms. Terry of being “asleep at the switch” on the pension decision, and has blasted her refusal to debate as an example of her arrogance. While we don’t defend her on that score, we don’t see that as justification to toss her out of office.
Other than a pledge to be tough on drugs and criticism of Ms. Terry’s record, Sen. Benedetti hasn’t made the case for change. We believe that Ms. Terry deserves another term.
