Residents throughout Rappahannock County will be wearing their ; favorite shoes on Saturday, Nov. 11 i for the American Heart Associar tion’s Turkeywalk. The six mile event will begin at 9 a.m. at the intersections of Rt. 612 and Rt. 600 in Old Hollow just east of Sperryville. “It’s a beautiful course, especially this time of year, which people of all ages and fitness levels can eiyoy”, said Co-Chairwoman Ann Miller. More than 40 walkers are expected to participate. i According to Chairwoman Beverly Atkins, the goal of the event is to support the fight against heart disease through raising funds to support heart research and community education programs.

However, Co-Chairwoman Miller pointed out another goal of Turkeywalk. “We’re trying to Spread the message that walking or some type of regular exercise can help people get physically fit and condition their hearts and lungs,” she said, “and it’s an activity the entire family can eiyoy.”

Donations of $100 or more through Turkeywalk will be awarded with a nutritious Thanks•giving turkey. “Besides being a thank you for support, the turkey is a reminder that a well balanced lowfat diet is good for our hearts, not only at Thanksgiving, but yeariround,” said Chairwoman Atkins, y Sponsoring Turkeywalk throughout Virginia is WLR Foods Inc. Over the past three years, WLR Inc. has contributed more than $75,000 to the American Heart Association in support of the Turkeywalk program.

The goal of the American Heart Association is to reduce disability hnd death from cardiovascular diseases and stroke. Each year in Virginia, heart disease claims more Chan 20,000 lives, making it the num1>er one killer.
