rvM. Wetland inventory mapping
Volunteers are needed to assist the ■ staff of the Culpeper Soi I and Water ; Conservation District with mapping of the ‘ county's wetland resources. The process, ; according to Kevin Hannigan, involves : transferring information from one map to ■ another to produce the final version. It will ; be done at the Rappahannock County • ASCS office on Gay St. in Washington on ; Tuesday and Wednesday, Nov. 14 and 15, : from 5 p.m. to. 8 p.m. "This will give people a better feel for what the conservation ; district is trying to do," as well as acquaint them with the county's wetland resources, ; Mr. Hannigan added. Volunteers should - contact the SWCD District office in Culpeper (825-4200) for more information.
Utter grants awarded
Rappahannock County and the Town of Washington are among the localities which received litter control grants from the state Department of Waste Management. Director Cynthia Bailey announced that the county had qualified for a $3,000 grant, and the town for $300. The grants are based on population, and may be used for any aspect of a local litter control program. Planning District 9 received litter grants totalling $28,490, Ms. ’ Bailey said.
Oral history workshop
James Madision University in Harrisonburg will sponsor a workshop on the traditions and techniques of oral history on Nov. 18. The event is being cosponsored by the school's history department and the organization Oral History in the Mid-Atlantic Region, and is open to the public. It will be held at the Harrisonburg Sheraton Hotel, beginning at 8:30 a.m. Registration is $15 in advance, $20 at the door. For information call (703) 568-6132.
