Since its founding in 1986, the Rappahannock Literacy Volunteers has provided a variety of services for adults and children, all geared toward correcting reading deficiencies.
Sometimes, the number of volunteers has outnumbered the clients seeking tutoring, but the literacy volunteers have continued to find new ways to reach more people with their efforts.
Presently, the group tutors prisoners at the county jail, students at the elementary and high schools and migrant laborers who work in the county’s fruit orchards, and provides individual and group tutoring for adults planning to take their General Equivalency Diploma (GED) exams.
