patcher related the following events.
The helicopter crew asked that callers trying to contact the helicopter to “key down on the mike.” Mrs. Rothrock had told rescuers “Waterboy” was the boys’ code name.
“Someone did and they are still doing it,” reported the chopper.
“Is this Waterboy?” asked the helicopter rescuer.
“10-4,” came a response.
Rescue workers breathed a sigh of relief as they realized the search was over.
The boys had started a fire and when they started to put it out, the helicopter crew spotted it. The two boys were located approximately 1.4 miles up Route 645 where the road crosses the river.
“They were very astute in stopping because they could have hit something like an overturned tree,” said Mrs. Rothrock. She said that she was grateful for the effort of the fire and rescue team.
“The boys were very surprised that the helicopter and so many people were looking for them,” said Mrs. Rothrock. The boys suffered no injures, but were just cold, reported fire and rescue personnel.
