“I think it was a bad rap against Scrabble too,” Sheriff John Henry Woodward said. “I see the two dumpster sites, and Scrabble stays the nicest, maybe because there aren’t as many scavengers there. I’ve had complaints on Harold also.”
“I’d like to see something more specific,” Jackson District representative Ellis Bingham said. “I’ve been there when Harold told someone not to put metal in the dumpster. He put it in anyway, and Harold told him to get in and get it out. I think that’s right. These general statements are about as invalid as his remarks.
“He is preparing an apology to the people of Scrabble,” Col. Bingham said. “Since the story appeared, there’s been a marked improvement in the number of tires going into it [the Scrabble dumpster]. ”
County Administrator John McCarthy said that the county will be billed for a transformer and light to be installed near the dumpster site at the landfill.
Hampton District representative Mike Massie said that the highway department plans to let bids for improvements to the road to the landfill in January with construction due to start in the spring. Nothing more was said on the subject for the dura£t)e
