In a letter to the editor in the Oct. 5 issue of the Rappahannock A'etc*. Mitzie Young stated that Rappahannock is the most fortunate community in the area, maybe the state. I would like to second that motion, and arid the following thoughts.
Rappahannock is a small rural county that thinks it is a small town, complete with a real sense of community. What makes Rappahannock a community? My dictionary defines a community as a social group of any size whose members reside in a specific locality, share government, and have a cultural and historical heritage. The root of the word comes from commune, to share, to have interchange of ideas.
A small example of this special kind of sharing happened this summer and early fall in the form of community theatre. A small group of folks decided to work on their talents and produce “The Lion in Winter.” As rehearsals started and the rumor of the upcoming play circulated in our community, people stopped by the Gay Street Theater to volunteer; to share their time, ex
