Funeral services will be held May 31 at Clore Funeral Home Chapel at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Thomas Darling and Rev. Gordon George officiating. Interment will be in Fairview Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be grandsons Kenneth Dudley Scott, LaVem Ray Scott, Marion Kyle Scott, Connie Ray Scott, John Brian Scott, Stephen Gary Scott, John Kenneth Scott and Randy Lynn Scott.
Henry Vawter
Henry Alexander Vawter, 75, of Winchester died May 25 at Winchester Medical Center.
Mr. Vawter was born April 10, 1915 in Virginia, the son of the late James Henry Vawter and Lillian Figgins. He was a contractor and a veteran of the Merchant Marine and served in World War II.
Mr. Vawter left VMI at the outbreak of World War II to serve in the Merchant Marine SOC and later returned to study at VPI. He then worked at Railway Express until becoming self-employed as a general contractor. He lived for 30 years in Old Town Alexandria and retired to “Robin Hill” in Flint Hill before entering Westminister Canterbury Retirement Home in 1987.
Mr. Vawter is survived by his wife, Emily Tolson Vawter; one daughter, Emily V. Barbee of Hillsboro; one son, James H. Vawter of Thousand Oaks, Ca.; one sister, Clara V. James of Media, Pa.; two
