Dr. Saunders brings to Wakefield ten years’ experience as headmaster or dean at private schools. A native of Virginia, Dr. Saunders chose to return to this area to be closer to aging family members. His most recent position was at The Parker School in Kamuela, Hawaii. During his three years as headmaster there, he was able to raise new funds, strengthen academic standards, and double enrollment, thus assuring the continuing existence of the school.
He holds a B.S. in Business Administration from VPI, an M.Ed. in Education and Social Studies from UNC-Greensboro, and an Ed.D. in in Educational Administration and Supervision of Instruction from Duke. He will reside with his wife, Margaret Ann in Flint Hill.
Welcoming Dr. Saunders in assembly on his first day, the student body greeted him with songs and poems and several special gifts, while the staff and faculty hosted a luncheon for Dr. and Mrs. Saunders.
Only a few days later. Dr. Saunders’ birthday was an opportunity to celebrate with cake and song. Parents met Dr. Saunders and the members of the board of trustees at a reception hosted by the Wakefield Parents Association.
