Mr. Roe’s presentation of what expansion meant to the area was terse and graphic. It made him “want out,”1 and it made him glad to find here in Rappahannock what had gone forever from Femandina and Amelia Island.
It is heartwrenching (and expensive. Read that broadly.) to be driven from a home which has been a happy place, a place where it has been possible to live with great natural beauty and productive land, unspoiled by heavy traffic, neon signs indicating hot competition with your neighbor, and evidence on every side of hectic searching for excitement.
Mr. Roe’s final paragraph should merit close attention on the part of readers of the news in “The News.” His metaphor is carefully (and ingeniously) constructed and congent, It deserves to be marked and inwardly disgested. For Rappahannokc’s sake say “No” to the exploitation of Washington, Virginia.
