Reeve said. “We learned a lot about the stock market and had a lot of fun. I hope to do it again next year.”
Alice said that the team experienced the most success by investing in companies that make athletic shoes: Reebok, Nike and L A Gear. “We knew the products that are popular in our school,” she said.
She explained that each Friday team members would come in with suggestions. “Usually we agreed on things,” she said. “If one wanted to invest in something and the rest of us weren’t sure, we would get 100 shares. If it went up we’d get more; if it went down, we would keep it another week and then sell.”
The teams from Rappahannock and Wakefield were put into a region with schools from the eastern part of the state. Besides the first place finish, two other teams from Mr. Flinchum’s classes finished sixth and seventh. The top Wakefield team finished 20th out of 66 teams in the region.
