The Building Trades Department at Rappahannock County High School will have one 8 foot x 12 foot utility shed for sale to the general public upon completion.
The shed may be seen now behind the RCHS shop between 3:15 and 5 p.m. The building has a floor composed of 2x4’s spaced at 16 inches on center covered with 3/4 inch plywood. Sides are also spaced 16 inches on center covered with fir T-lll siding. Roofing consists of 1/2 inch plywood covered with asphalt shingles. The building rests on three 4 inch x 4 inch pressure treated skids.
“Unlike in previous years, we sprayed on an oil based stain and painted all trim,” said Ron Vickers, building trades instructor. This activity sums up a year’s work of a survey of the trades.
With the high cost of instructional supplies, building a saleable product allows the carpentry unit to pay for itself, Mr. Vickers explained. The minimum bid to buy the building reflect the cost of materials with no profit to the school or students.
The building crew included James Fletcher, Jerry Foster, Shawn Jordan, Matthew Ketchem, Durrell Miller, Anthony Smoot, Buster Williams, Jeff Woodward, Gerald Ausberry, Tom Brown, Jonathan Fletcher, Mike Jenkins, Darrell Melvin and Lloyd Slaughter.
