Fall sports practice
The fall sports season at Rappahannock County High School will begin on Monday, Aug. 13 with tryouts for cross-country, girls basketball, soccer and cheerleading. Girls varsity basketball will practice from 9 a.m. until noon in the gym, followed by the junior varsity practice from noon until 3 p.m. Cheerleaders will meet from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m., also in the gym, and soccer tryouts will be held from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. on the soccer field. Cross-country practices will begin on Aug. 20, and interested students should call RCHS before that date. All prospective athletes are reminded they must have a current athletic physical before they will be allowed to practice. For more information, call the high school (987-8575).
4-h Center receives grant
The Northern Virginia 4-H Center outside Front Royal has been notified that it will receive a $250,000 challenge grant from the Kresge Foundation in Troy, Michigan. The award was announced in May, conditional on the 4-H Center completing its $3.6 million fundraising campaign by luly 1. With six months still to go until completion of the campaign, the center has already received more than $3,650,000 in donations and commitments from public and private sources.
ARB to meet ait 7:30 p.m.
To better accomodate residents and members, Washington's Architectural Review Board will begin its meetings at 7:30 p.m. rather than 8 p.m. The new time willbe effective with the Aug. 23 meeting, which has been changed from its regular third Thursday date. The regular date will resume in September.
