Library sets
Oct. 1 as
contract date

The Library Board adopted a schedule for construction of the new library. Sept. 20 has been set as the date to open bids with the contract to be awarded Oct. 1.
The specifications will call for construction to be completed by June 1, 1991. This will allow one month for the library to move from its present location to the new building.
Meanwhile, on Aug. 24, Librarian Diane Green and Robert Darby of the Friends of the Rappahannock Library will go to Richmond to present the county’s case for support from federal funds for the project. They will request $150,000 of the $500,000 cost from the state library board which decides which projects get funding grants from the federal money.
Library Board Chairman Dr. William Young said the board expects to find out if the library will receive a grant before the Oct. 1 date for awarding the contract.
In the meantime, the Library Board has requested separate bids for installing the septic system and building the road.
At its meeting Tuesday the board approved suggested changes to the plans which had been recommended by the building committee and approved having County Administrator John McCarthy work with the architect to clear up questions about how the advertising and bidding process will be handled.
