nation for Governor, you were the only one who seemed to have any personal integrity. Don’t now, for the sake of party unity, fall into the trap of sound bite politics and cheap rhetorical slogans.
I have never met David Smith. But surely he is an honorable man. Surely he believes in a'strong America, one where we are all safe from fear, from want. Surely he supports good family values that reflect the best of America. I can’t believe he thinks “dope dealers and criminals” should be coddled. And finally, I don’t think Mr. Smith as a conservative Democrat, nor even if he were a liberal Democrat, supports any form ofpornography.
Mr. Slaughter ran unopposed in the last election. That may have made him sleep better. And certainly it saved on his postage bill (oops! Make that my postage bill), but as a voter in the Seventh Congressional District, 1 feel much better with a real discussion of the issues. I applaud Mr. Smith in his decision to run against Mr. Slaughter. I look forward to a healthy, honest and real exploration of the political differences between these two Virginians. We as citizens of the Commonwealth and of the United States will be the richer for it.
