With four evenings of unseasonably pleasant weather, the Flint Hill Volunteer Fire Department’s annual carnival was one of the most successful ever.
“It was an outstanding success,” according to Moe Walker. “In fact, it was the best one in the history of the fire company.” He reported that the gross receipts exceeded $41,000.
A huge crowd lined the street for the Firemen’s Parade on Thursday night, watching and cheering as fire and rescue apparatus, marching bands, floats and civic groups paraded by in colorful procession.
The judges selected the following winners in the Firemen’s Parade (winners are listed in order of finish; first, second and third):
Best appearing fire company (towns over 500 population): Warrenton Volunteer Fire Department, Orange Volunteer Fire Department, McLean Volunteer Fire Department
Best appearing fire company (towns under 500 population): Amissville Volunteer Fire Depart
