Jenkins family reunion
The annual reunion for the relatives and friends of the late Luther E. and Ada F. Jenkins will be held Aug. 26 at the picnic area of Graves Mountain Lodge, Syria from 11 a.m. until dark. Those attending are asked to bring a picnic lunch which will be served at 1 p.m.
Shooting match at Castleton
A shooting match will be held every Saturday starting Oct. 6 and continuing through Nov. 17 at 1 p.m. at Castleton firehouse. Cash and other prizes will be awarded. Those participating are reminded 12 gauge guns only, no sleeves and no scopes.
'Shirley Valentine'
The movie Shirley Valentine will be playing at the Gay Street Theater on Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 25 and 26 at 7:30 p.m. The movie stars Pauline Collins and Tom Conti. We meet the former Shirley Valentine long after she’s married and became the less romantically named Shirley Bradshaw. She’s sipping a glass of wine and talking, as usual, to the kitchen wall. Invited to go oh a two week holiday to Greece, she finally gets up the brass and finds herself splashing about naked in the Agean sea, and questioning the worth of her unexamined Liverpool life. The movie is rated R.
Benefit yard sale
The Castleton Community Volunteer Fire Company (CCVFD) will be having a yard sale on Aug. 25 beginning at 9 a.m. at the Castleton Fire Department. Anyone wishing to donate items for the sale can call 937-5614 or 987-6051. . All donated items will be appreciated and the proceeds from the sale will go towards operating expenses of CCVFD.
Fall soccer registration
Fall soccer registration will be held on fee day, Thursday, Aug. 30 at Rappahannock Elementary School. Boys and girls in kindergarten through eighth grade are invited to “come and register, everyone else does,” said an organizer.
Finances for Women
The Rappahannock County Extension Homemakers and AARP will co-sponsor a “Women’s Financial Information Program” to begin on Tuesday, Sept. 11 and run for seven consecutive Tuesday evenings. The meetings will be held at the Extension Office on Gay Street, beginning at 6:45 p.m. and concluding no later than 9:30 p.m. There will be a $10 fee for the course. The program is designed specifically to assist women in managing their finances today and in planning for a secure financial future. Call the Extension Office (675-3619) for additional information.
Lecture series
Spring Mountain School is sponsoring the second in its lecture series on Waldorf education. The lecture on Aug. 24, 7:30-9 p.m. is entitled “Introduction to Waldorf Education,” Aug. 25 9 a.m.-3 p.m. is an all day workshop on the curriculum of the school. Both events are to be held at CCLC and are free. Call 987-8606 for more information.
Wharton family reunion
The family reunion of the late Henry Taylor and Lillie Margaret Cloud Wharton will be held at the Rappahannock Park on Sept. 8. Family and friends are welcome to come and bring a pichic lunch. “Lots of fun for all,” said a family organizer.
