Next month, the debate over funding will move closer to home as well. On Saturday, Sept. 8, following the opening reception for the “Sacred Cows” exhibition at the Middle Street Gallery in Washington, the gallery will sponsor a panel discussion titled “Sacred Cows: Arts in Crisis.”
Among the four panelists are several who have found themselves personally involved in the controversy over the arts.
Lynn Schmidt is a painter and sculptor who lives in Arlington. She is the chairwoman of the board of directors of the Washington Project for the Arts, the gallery which finally exhibited Robert Mapplethorpe’s photographs.
