like my grandmother, was a rock anchoring the family. Though he was related to my mother’s Virginia family only by marriage, there wasn’t a niece or nephew, or their children, who didn’t enjoy coming to see “Uncle Lou.” And he always had time for them — especially the kids. Whether it was fishing in Grandmother’s pond, wiffleball or football, Dad was ready.
The year he died, my parents were planning to host the Moore family reunion at their farm in Mecklenburg County — the farm where my grandmother and grandfather raised my mother, my aunts and uncles. It would have been the first reunion at the farm in more than 10 years.
