sent an introduction and their personal point of view. The discussion, she added, will revolve around “the fact that art is important. . . and the legal and moral ramifications of funding for the arts. How can we limit it without censoring it?
“I’d like people,” Mrs. Manookian said, “to think about this issue and come to the discussion loaded for bear.”
She issued a particular invitation to those who oppose public funding for the arts. “We’d like to have a robust and vigorous debate. A dialogue is definitely what we’re seeking — that’s why we’re having a moderator.”
The “Sacred Cows” exhibit opens Sept. 1 at Middle Street Gallery, and will hang through September. The opening reception will be held at the gallery on Saturday, Sept. 8 from 3 p.m. to 6:30 p.m.
The panel discussion will begin at 7:30 p.m. at the Town Hall on Gay Street in Washington. Both events are free and the public is invited to attend.
