Alice Sims is a painter living in Alexandria who has exhibited in Washington, D.C. She found herself accused of child pornography after photos she had taken of her children, which she uses as models for her detailed colored pencil drawings, were reported by a drugstore photo lab to the police. The accusation was quickly resolved by a District Court judge, but not before Mrs. Sims’ two children were placed in protective custody overnight by the Department of Social Services.
Douglas Baumgardner is an attorney in Washington, and is active in Virginia politics. He serves as the chairman of the Rappahannock County Democratic Committee. He will bring to the panel an insight into the political and legal realities of the issue, which are both also elements of the continuing controversy.
The moderator for the evening’s discussion will be Nol Putnam, who has established a national reputation as a blacksmith, artist and teacher.
