Food Bank raising money

Last year the Blue Ridge Area Food Bank network distributed six million pounds of food through its regional food banks in Charlottesville, Lynchburg, Verona and Winchester. In Rappahannock, three agencies received food worth an estimated $71,000 during 1991.

The Food Bank is currenly conducting its seventh annual Spring Hands Against Hunger fund-raising campaign. Unemployment dips slightly

After months of steady increase, the unemployment rate in Rappahannock dipped slightly in March, down to 13.4 percent from an all-time high of 14 percent in February. The January rate was also 13.4 percent.

There were 488 persons looking for work in Rappahannock during March, out of a total workforce of 3,369.

Other jurisdictions, and their March jobless rates: Culpeper, 11.1; Fauquier, 6.3; Madison, 6.8; Orange, 10.3; Virginia, 6.8; and the United States, 7.7 percent.
