Ms. Rozell also pointed out that most utility company employees will be driving vehicles clearly identified by the company’s color and name or logo on the vehicle, usually on the door.
Utility employees will also often be wearing distinctive clothing, such as a uniform or a hardhat. Ms. Rozell emphasized that in addition to these features, “All REC employees carry an official identification card with their photograph on it. People should feel free to ask to see the I.D. card.”
She said in most cases there is no need for the electric company to enter your house unless you have called them concerning a problem with your home’s electrical system.
Always be sure with whom you are dealing whether in person or on the phone. Do not tell any stranger you are home alone or that you will not be home at a certain time. Do not give out your credit card number to anyone that calls you. If you notice any suspicious activity, call your local law enforcement agency immediately.
