Athletic banquet
The Rappahannock High School Athletic department will hold its annual athletic banquet at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 27 at the high school. The cost will be $3 per person for anyone who is not a varsity athlete, varsity athletes will be admitted free. Tickets may be purchased at the high school between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m. The guest speaker will be a representative from the Virginia High School League. Environmental workshop
If you have ever wanted to argue with or question TV or radio “experts” and panelists, about environmental problems, here’s your chance. An Environmental Workshop, sponsored by the Virginia Federation of Garden Clubs will be held at the 4-H Center in Front Royal May 26-28. Anyone interested can register for the event, either as a full participant, with overnight accomodations, or as a one day or half day, visitors. Prices will vary according to your level of participation.
Environmental subjects covered will be Energy Options, Recycling Solutions, Careers in Environment, Green Consumerism, and Companion Planting. There will be discussion groups, hands on workshops and field trips to local areas.
Evening program sessions will include speakers from the Virginia Wildlife Center, as well as videos from the Kittering Foundation and the Smithsonian, and a slide show from Arlingtonians for a Clean Environment. The pictures taken at the Sperryville’s Rescue Squad’s annual Miss Rappahannock Contest have arrived. If you have not been notified or have not picked up your pictures please call Gail Deal at 9878182. Also anyone interested in photo packages from the winning categories should contact Mrs. Deal also.
Rescue activities, cookout
Virginia Volunteer Rescue Squad Week is May 17-23. The Sperryville Rescue Squad will hold an open house from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday, May 23. There will be free blood pressure checks and free EMS handouts on medical and health information. They will also hold a ; cookout on Saturday and also 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, May 24 at < the Squad building. Everyone is urged to come out and support your rescue squad.
Baseball for boys 16-18
RAA registration is being conducted for boys 16-18 interested in playing summer baseball, 2 p.m.-4 p.m. May 17 at Stuart Field in Amissville. The season starts following summer recess. There will also be practice on Sunday.
Bring birth certificates. Uniform sizes will be taken.

Beauty pageant at CGVFD
The Chester Gap Volunteer Fire Department will hold a tiny, little, junior and miss Honorary Fire Chief beauty pageant at 2 p.m. on Saturday, July 18. The ages are tiny 2-4, little 5-9, junior 10-14 and miss 15-21. Applications are available now until entry deadline of July . 8. Registration fee is $25. Workshops planned
CCWHY, Community Coalition Workshop for Healthy Youth, , will sponsor a series of workshops relating to “Alcohol and Other Drug Awareness” cooperatively with Gary Settle of the Virginia State Police.
The first in the series will be held at 7:30 p.m. on June 2 at the Washington fire hall. Discussion and refreshments will follow the pre- : sentation.

Fashion show to be held
On Thursday, May 21 the Fashion and Tailoring Department of ; Piedmont Technical Education Center will present a fashion show “Spring Is Sewphisticated” at 7:30 p.m. in the school auditorium on U.S. 15 South of Culpeper. The clothing, which is being shown, has been created by the students in the class. Everyone is invited.
Class reunion
The 1939 graduating class of Washington High School will have a reunion on June 26 at Flint Hill Public House. Anyone needing additional information or anyone with information concerning classmates should call Woodville Barron at 937-4035.
Meditation class
Toni White is offering a meditation class open to beginners and to those already practicing meditation who would like inspiration and group support to explore new realms of consciousness.
