Six Rappahannock High students were charged this week with misdemeanor assault for an April 9 incident that occurred at the school involving another student, according to Sheriff John H. Woodward.
Two adults and four juveniles were charged, and all are enrolled at the high school. Charged were Roger Brown, 18, of Flint Hill; Greg Pendleton, 18, of Amissville; and four boys under 18 years old, according to Sheriff Woodward.
The sheriff said the case will be heard in Rappahannock Juvenile and Domestic Relations Court because of the age of the victim. Brown and Pendleton, he said, are being tried in that court, but as adults.

• A mysterious car fire that killed a Conde man in the early morning hours of May 1 apparently started accidentally, Fauquier County Sheriff Joe Higgs said Tuesday.
Neil Jacob Burke, 23, died of smoke inhalation in a fire that destroyed his 1988 Pontiac on Route 688 north of Orlean, Sheriff Higgs said. “As a result of laboratory tests,” he added, “we have established that alcohol was a contributing factor in this death.”
The fire was so intense, and the car was burned so completely, that the precise cause remains unknown. "The suspected point of origin was within the passenger compartment of the vehicle,” the Fauquier sheriff said.
“We have ruled out the possibility of foul play, and there was no evidence of accelerants at the point of origin,” ruling out arson as a cause. Sheriff Higgs said.
The car was found in the southbound travel lane of Route 688, just north of the Route 647 intersection at Jerry’s Shop, by a passing motorist. The Orlean Volunteer Fire Department extinguished the flames and discovered a body inside the car.
The car’s transmission was in neutral with the parking brake set, and the driver’s seat was partially reclined, leading to speculation that Burke stopped the car and fell asleep sometime before the fire started. That, however, remains only a theory, and Sheriff Higgs said the sequence of events leading to the fire will probably never be conclusively established.
