for Maude. I guess he reasoned that they had traveled 30 miles they would pay another dollar to keep from going home emptyhanded. He was wrong. The man turned, got in the truck and went home without Maude.
We had Maude for some three months. Maude was dragged to the south edge of the farm to the desert where she rotted and when the wind was right we suffered from a dead horse. We could not help but question dear old Dad’s judgment for a long time.
The lesson is that one dollar in your hand is worth more than a dead horse within smelling distance, or father doesn't always know b^st.
I wdhder if anyone knows how the term originated for an advance in pay. Probably the cavalry. But my father’s judgement was questioned, at least as long as Maude could be smelled.
There was a doc farmer from Huntly,
