The Board of Supervisors voted not to participate in a regional landfdl with Page and Warren counties at their meeting Monday, but decided to continue to look into the possibility of hauling the county’s trash to Fauquier County after January 1994 .
At the same time the supervisors agreed to continue with the engineering studies and application process needed to operate the county’s own landfill. New requirements will be effective .January 1, 1994, that will make operating a landfill more expensive.
County Administrator John McCarthy said that the contract for the privately operated regional landfill to be located in Page County called for a tipping fee of $35 to $40 per ton based on 200 to 250 tons per day. The three counties estimate their current trash amounts to only 120 tons per day.
Mr. McCarthy said the county might have to pay tipping fees for trash it wasn’t putting in. He said also the contract would allow the company operating the landfill “unlimited op|M>rtunities to restructure the contract.” Finally, he said the contract severely limited the liability of the company planning to operate the landfill, leaving the counties participating unlimited liability.
