orage. The supervisors agreed to purchase it for $12,500 if they can get permits and zoning approval from the town of Washington to use it for the magistrate’s office.
Clerk Diane Bruce told the supervisors she had received a $3,575 grant from the state library to preserve the original plat of the county and a book containing minutes for the Town of Washington starting in 1796.
Before the start of Monday’s meeting the supervisors toured the elementary school and had lunch there.
The supervisors briefly discussed Rep. Frank Wolfs visit to the county and the uproar caused by the Shenandoah National Park’s planned closing of two thirds of the Skyline Drive until June 1. “If they are going to close it down, they ought to give it back to the people they took it from,” Chairman Gilkey said.
“I think it is primarily a leverage for more appropriations,” Mr. Estes added.
