Mr. McCarthy said he had been talking with Fauquier County staff about participating in their landfill. Tipping fees there would be $42 per ton in 1994 and $50 per ton in 1995, but hauling costs would be lower.
He said he would continue to explore the possibility of cooperating with Fauquier. In the meantime the Part A application for a new cell to be used after January, 1994. has been sent to the Department of Waste Management, Mr. McCarthy said. “Our best insurance policy is to continue with the permitting,” he said.
Mr. McCarthy also said the county had applied to the Environmental Protection Agency for a grant to handle leachate from the landfill in an artificial wetland. It might be three months before the county hears if its grant application has been approved, he said.
The supervisors voted to give five county employees two percent raises. The state approved two percent raises for constitutional officers and their staffs starting in January. The raises would be for other county employees not covered bv these raises.
The supervisors also voted 3 to 0 with Hampton District representative Mike Massie and Piedmont District representative Charles K. "Pete” Estes abstaining to purchase a two-car garage from VirSee
