RAAC offers
unusual films
to community
Bill Young, the man responsible for the weekly movies at The Theatre in Washington, has put together an interesting schedule of films for the next four months.
Sponsored by the Rappahannock Association for the Arts and Community (RAAC), the film series began in February, l!)H.'t, with Father Sun and Sister Moon, followed by Chariots of Fire.
The series has continued to showcase first rate films ever since. This month's offerings include Batman Returns on Sunday, followed by Prancer on Dec. 20. Prancer will be shown at 2:20 p.m. and again at 7:20 p.m. Rounding out tin* month is Patriot (James on Dec. 2)5 -27.
But if RAAC is going to continue to schedule such films as Sneakers (.Ian, 1(5-17) and White Men Can’t .lump (Jan. 22-24), attendance must rise. Young said that RAAC needs at least 75 paying customers for each movie to break even. When only 15 or 2(> show up, that movie loses money, Young said.
He has scheduled top-rated films for this winter and spring. The recently produced Of Mice and Men will be here on Feb. 7, followed bv Knehanted April, My Father’s Glory (French with subtitles), and A River Flows Through on successive Sundays.
The hast of the Mohicans will highlight the March offerings and April will open with Gone With the Wind. This classic has been reprinted, and will be a treat for all, Young said.
