“What 1 have said is that there are other ways to deal with the | park's| deficit than closing down the
Skyline Drive," Wolf said. “The truth of the matter is that the savings that they would have is roughly $200,000. The loss that they would have in lack of collecting tolls would be more than $200,000," he added.
In fact, the Park sees none of the fees collected at the gates. All such fees go directly to the General Fund of the Treasury Department.
The letter that Wolf mentioned was sent to James Ridenour, director of the National Park Service, and was signed by both Virginia senators, and congressmen George Allen, R-7th, James Olin, D-Oth, L.F. Payny, D-5th, Tom Bliley, R-Jrd, and Wolf.
