Every Christmas Charles Robb and his wife, Lynda, send out hundreds of cards containing a photograph of the family.
Yet despite the festive season, for the former Governor, once the most popular politician in the state, it may be another melancholy December.
A year ago he was coping with reports of partying and womanizing while serving as Virginia's chief executive and as this is written a grand jury in Norfolk has been sent home but told to return December 17, perhaps to hear from Robb again.
The grand jury must decide whether to indict Robb, now a U.S. Senator, for what federal prosecutors apparently believe is his criminal role in the handling of a tape recording of a conversation between Gov. Douglas Wilder and a wealthy Tidewater supporter. > Robb’s attorneys have been working around the clock to try to persuade the Department of Justice to drop the case which has resulted so far in convictions on minor charges of three former Robb aides who plea bargained.
