What’snpw at the Rappahannock County Library?
Everything you ever wanted to know about the Civil War? Well almost! Quita Parrish and her sister, Sophie Chandler Consagara have given the library what is, known as, the “Official Records of the Union and Confederate Armies,” The War of the Rebellion.
This 128 volume set was put together by the Government Printing Office during the Lincoln administration. Each volume contains first hand accounts of the various skirmishes, battles, troop encampments and movements as well as military court trials during the Civil War.
Many contain gossip like this note passed on to his superior officer by Colonel Speed Butler. He is referring to General Griffin’s behavior on Sept. 3,18(52.
“Griffin said that he was tired of being commanded by staff officers, and asked what Pope had ever done that he made miyorgeneral. He also spoke disrespectfully and sneeringly of other superior officers. He even said he had heard that General McClellan was to take command and hoped it was true.”
