These books are heavily indexed by soldier’s name, date of correspondence, town and, or county. There art* maps anti casulty counts includetl as well as fascinating first hand accounts of the various skirmishes throughout the Bouth as well as locally and throughout the Shenandoah Valley.
The work of compiling and publishing these civil war records began during the administration of President Lincoln and continued into the next two presidencies. Because of their age and condition these books cannot be checked out of the library. So come prepared with a current picture II) and time to do a little research.
The Rappahannock Library also has plenty of books, magazines, books on tape and videos that can be checked out.
The library adds over 200 new books each month. Almost half of these books are donated by individuals here in the community. If the library didn’t have what you were looking for last week, try again. Call (575-3780.
Starting in .January the new winter hours will be as follows: Monday and Wednesday 10 a.m. until 8 p.m. Tuesday, Thursday, Friday 10 a.m.-(5 p.m. and Saturday 10 a.m.-2 p.m.
The library is closed on Sunday.
